Audio Arts interview with Kutlug Ataman
Audio Arts' Jean Wainwright in conversation with Turner Prize-nominee Ataman.
Audio Arts is the brainchild of William Furlong, a figure who – through his interest in sound and the voice – has been highly influential in the development of expanded notions of sculpture. Over the past 35 years Audio Arts Magazine has been published as a series of cassette and CD editions, and is a comprehensive archive of interviews with artists across several generations. These interviews were made by Furlong and his colleagues, and as part of Talk Show Audio Arts collaborator Jean Wainwright conducted an interview with artist Kutlug Ataman in the ICA's Lower Gallery.
Kultug Ataman was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1961 and graduated with a BA in film from the University of California, USA in 1985. His practice exists across the disciplines of film-making and art, and he has exhibited internationally in both film-festivals and gallery settings, developing a body of work poised on the boundary between documentary and fiction. He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2004.
