Camila Batmanghelidjh, psychotherapist and founder of South London charity Kids Company, talks about the different demands and sensitivities in play when working with profoundly vulnerable youth. Using art as a therapeutic tool, she has given thousands of troubled kids a means of dealing with daily violence and neglect. Tough realities were channelled into a powerful vision when she worked with over 1000 young participants on the acclaimed Shrinking Childhoods installation at Tate Modern (2004-5). Kids Company was established in 1996 and now reaches 25 inner-city schools. Batmanghelidjh's writings include the recent Shattered Lives: Children who Live with Courage and Dignity.
