A special screening of the ground-breaking docudrama about people-smuggling and the plight of many refugees, with director Michael Winterbottom, producer Andrew Eaton and screenwriter Tony Grisoni here for an introduction and post-screening discussion. The film-makers follow two 'real' characters - Jamal Udin Torabi and Enayatullah, effectively playing themselves - as they make the perilous journey from a camp in Peshawar to Great Britain, travelling along the 'silk road' through Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. Part fictional construct, part re-enactment, the film brings the issue home in a direct and dramatic way that cannot be ignored.
Dir Michael Winterbottom, UK 2002, 88 mins, subtitles, Cert 15
