Green-Blue: The New Tory Environmentalism

George Monbiot
George Monbiot
25 September 2008

David Cameron's revitalised Conservative party is putting environmentalism at the heart of its agenda. Is there any natural connection between conservatism and environmentalism? Can the goals of environmentalism and Toryism find common ground in a new localism and a new pride in English identity, one which protects Britain's landscape, culture and heritage against corporatist blandness and encroaching development?

Speakers: George Monbiot, Guardian columnist and author of Heat: How We Can Stop the Planet Burning; Tim Yeo, Conservative MP for Suffolk South and chair of the Environmental Audit Committee; Paul Kingsnorth, author of Real England: The Battle Against the Bland; Peter Hall, environmentalist, ethical fund-manager and member of the Conservative party's approved list of parliamentary candidates. Chair: Julian Baggini, editor of The Philosophers' Magazine and author of Welcome to Everytown: A Journey into the English Mind.

£10 / £9 Concessions / £8 ICA Members.
